A 7-year-old boy who was declared missing
for seven days, has been found alive in a forest after he was left there by his
parents as punishment. Yamato Tanooka was left in a wooded area on
Japanese island, on Saturday afternoon. After six nights alone in
the forest and a mass search by police and military personnel, Yamato was
finally found. Military personnel found the boy in a hut during an exercise
around 5km from where he is thought to have gone missing.
"He was incredibly calm considering he
had been missing for seven days. He didn’t panic at all" said a
doctor. His parents said they made the boy get out of
the car on a mountain road because he was misbehaving. They had initially
claimed he got lost while the family were picking wild vegetables.
Feeling remorseful for what he did,
father Takayuki Tanooka told reporters outside the hospital in
Hakodate: "first thing I did was apologise to him. We’ve raised
him in a loving family, but from now on, we’ll do even more to love him and keep
a close watch on him as he grows up," he said.
