Nigerians Deceived as Buhari Fails Promise to Release Details of Looters, Recovered Assets

President Muhammadu Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has failed to keep his promise to reveal details of those who have looted the resources of Nigeria and how much has been recovered so far.

The president had on May 14, promised to provide details of all recovered stolen public funds to the public to guide them on what to write. Buhari had promised while attending the anti-corruption summit in London.

He said: “So far, what has come out, what has been recovered in whatever currency from each ministries, departments and individuals, I intend on the 29th to speak on this because all Nigerians are getting from the mass media because of the number of people arrested either by the EFCC, DSS. But we want to make a comprehensive report on the 29th,” But, he failed to keep that promise during his Democracy Day speech.

He disappointed Nigerians.

Many Nigerians were left utterly disappointed as some had glued their eyes to the television in anticipation of the revelation.

Instead of keeping to his promise, the president said: “Full details of the status and categories of the assets will now be published by the Ministry of Information and updated periodically. When forfeiture formalities are completed these monies will be credited to the treasury and be openly and transparently used in funding developmental projects and the public will be informed."

Nigerians are yet to recover from the sudden blow as they now believe the administration may be tilting to a new road of insincerity.
